Flower Communion

June 6, 2008

Compared with other denominations, we Unitarian Universalists have considerably fewer liturgical traditions. However one that seems to be growing (pardon the pun) is the Flower Communion. Every year more U.U. churches observe this ‘new tradition’. It’s a grand way to celebrate the universal beauty of nature in spring as well as the end of the ‘official’ church year. On Sunday, you are invited to bring a flower to exchange for another flower brought by somebody else. It is a nice way for the church community to share some of the color and optimism of spring.
