Knitting Group Continues Its Good Work
July 17, 2008
In keeping with our tradition of service to others, a knitting group has formed to help those in need keep warm this winter. On Tuesday evenings, between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM in the parish house, all are invited to participate in knitting hats, mittens, scarves, and other articles of clothing which will be distributed to shelters when our weather turns cold again. Men, women, young adults, and children, come and enjoy the fun! No experience necessary. Lessons are available for those in need. Patterns, yarn, and needles are available as well. Donations of yarn and finished goods are also accepted.

Bell Street Chapel Welcomes José Ballester as our new Consulting Minister
July 17, 2008
The Governing Board is pleased to announce that Rev. José Ballester will be joining Bell Street Chapel as our Consulting Minister effective August 1. In this half-time position, José will work with the congregation to identify and articulate our Vision and Mission, so that the congregation can grow in size and in spiritual depth. He will also provide worship, pastoral care, and other ministerial services as his part-time schedule allows.
José has been a Unitarian Universalist minister for more than twenty years, and has served congregations in Norwell, Braintree, Brockton and Malden Massachusetts, and Woonsocket, Rhode Island. His most recent Parish Ministry was an experimental model of team ministry at First Unitarian Universalist Church in Houston, Texas from 2004 to 2008. José and the former Associate Minister shared responsibility for the worship service, staff supervision, religious education coordination, volunteer coordination and new member orientation. Additionally, José was responsible for community outreach, social justice ministry, financial oversight and publicity.
From 1994 to 2001, José was Associate Director for Member Action at the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), where he directed the Just Works Volunteer Program. This program consisted of several interdisciplinary service-learning projects intended to transform participants into informed and empowered advocates for human rights and social justice.
José is currently a Trustee-at-Large on the Unitarian Universalist Association Board of Trustees.
Please join us in welcoming José to Bell Street. The Governing Board looks forward to working with and learning from him as we begin this new chapter in our congregational life.
