Service Opportunities

The Parish & Social Concerns Committee of Bell Street Chapel creates opportunities for members and friends of the congregation to live our Unitarian Universalist principles through Social Service and Social Justice activities.

*Adopt-A-Marsh program: Bell Street Chapel participates in this Save the Bay program, serving as stewards for a a beautiful and environmentally endangered marsh on the Providence river off Allens Avenue. Members of Bell Street Chapel remove trash from the marsh several times a year and make recommendations to Save the Bay for more permanent improvements to the area.

* Buy Nothing Day was started by Adbusters to protest the consumerism that is undermining our communities and overwhelming the ecosystems that support life on earth. Buy Nothing Day is celebrated on the biggest shopping day of the year, the day after Thanksgiving. Bell Street supports this effort through collecting coats in the month of November and donating them to this event which is held at the State House.

*Cossroads-RI lunch brigade: Bell Street Chapel has a long history of making bag lunches for our homeless and needy fellow citizens on the first Sunday of every month. We gather in Eddy Hall after worship service and share fellowship and fun while we make 100 bag lunches (tuna sandwiches, fruit, cookies, and juice boxes) which we then deliver to Crossroads-Rhode Island on Broad Street in Providence.
